TORONTO, May 4 (Lifesitenews.com) – The Ontario Progressive Conservative government has come out against the idea of school vouchers or charter schools. On Saturday Premier Mike Harris was quoted in the National Post saying “We want a public education system that Ontario parents and families have so much confidence in that they’ll never want to send their children to any other private school.” Some conservative MPPs and supporters had hoped that the government would introduce a school voucher system, which would allow parents to send their children and their tax money to the school of their choice.

With this statement Harris has committed his party to maintaining the centrally controlled state monopoly on school education and formation of the provinces’ children. It’s another huge disappointment with the Tories for social conservatives who see the PCs more and more resembling the federal Liberals and U.S. Democrats on controversial social issues.
