May 8, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Alex Schadenberg, the executive director of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, released the following statement, encouraging concerned individuals to register for and attend the upcoming Second-International Symposium on Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide. The Symposium will take place on May 29-30 in Lansdowne, Virginia.

Schadenberg writes:

To effectively oppose the legalization of assisted suicide, you need to attend the Second-International Symposium on Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide.

The euthanasia lobby appears to be gaining momentum, but we have not lost the battle.
The Second-International Symposium on Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide still has space for more registrants. There will never be another Symposium that is happening at such an important time and with so many leaders working to create a unified and effective outcome.

Dr Mark Mostert, the director of the Institute for the Study of Disability & Bioethics and a keynote speaker at the Second-International Symposium on Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide, stated: “We must be shoulder to shoulder, out there where millions of people will notice us, and declare that we are the solid and united counterweight to assisted suicide and eugenic euthanasia lobby, especially as it relates to people with disabilities.”

“We must do these things because hundreds of thousands of the vulnerable, the infirm, and people with disabilities cry out for our unity. They seek comfort and sanity. They are human beings with infinite value. They deserve nothing but our best effort, because, in the end, they are us.”

Consider the context:

– The pressure to legalize assisted suicide has never been greater than now.
– Last November, Washington State legalized assisted suicide through a referendum vote making it the second state, after Oregon, to legalize assisted suicide.
– Last December, a Judge in Montana imposed assisted suicide upon that state by judicial fiat, making Montana the third state to allow the direct and intentional killing of its citizens. That decision is being appealed and Amicus briefs have been filed.
– This Spring, the euthanasia lobby introduced legislation to legalize assisted suicide in Hawaii, New Hampshire, Connecticut, New Mexico, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Vermont.
– A bill to legalize euthanasia will be presented in the Canadian parliament this month.

But we will turn the tide.
