HONOLULU, Nov 4 (LSN)  The Alliance for Traditional Marriage-Hawaii (ATM) has triumphed after a hard fought battle to defeat a proposal by the Hawaii Supreme Court to legalize gay marriages in that state. In order to defeat the measure Hawaiians were given the opportunity to vote to give the state’s legislature the power to ban same-sex marriages.  Pro-family forces overcame a $1.5 million dollar propaganda campaign which was bankrolled by The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest homosexual lobbying group. Family advocates also had to contend with an unfair voting system which counted all blank and spoiled ballots as “no” votes (no to protecting traditional marriage). A strong feature of the successful campaign was the courageous support of church leaders most notably Honolulu’s Bishop Francis DiLorenzo.  In related news Alaskans voted to enshrine a gay marriage ban into their constitution and in Fort Collins Colorado voters defeated a proposal to put “sexual orientation” alongside religion and race as a specially protected grounds against discrimination.
