HERNANDO, FLA, May 14, 2001 (LSN.ca) – An 19 year old girl has had a very happy Mother’s day after giving birth to a healthy baby despite having been injected with the chemical abortifacient methotrexate at an abortuary. The St. Petersburg Times reported yesterday on the “miracle” birth of Alexandria Nicole Saia born April 5.

While still 18, Nicole Saia found herself pregnant and was pressured by the father of the child to have an abortion. Nicole relates: “When I went to the abortion clinic, I talked to the counselor. I was crying and I told her that I didn’t want to do this and that I wasn’t ready to do it, but she told the doctor that I was fine and to go in for the procedure.” But two days after being injected with methotrexate (a deadly agent used for chemical abortions) at an abortuary in Gainesville, Nicole changed her mind about having an abortion. After telling her parents of her ordeal they prayed and entrusted her case to God. The family contacted a doctor who agreed to try to save the life of the unborn child.

Dr. Steven Roth, of the Genesis Women’s Center in Inverness, had Nicole take Leukovorin (a drug given in cancer treatment along with methotrexate to protect normal cells) to overwhelm the chemical she took. The baby survived and was not deformed in any way. Dr. Roth agreed with Nicole and her family that God played a major role in the intervention. “I had never written a prescription for Leukovorin in my life. I had to call somebody else to find out what the dosage was,” said Dr. Roth. “I think God had a hand in opening up my mind in using that as a possible treatment option and certainly in just protecting that baby. Even having Nicole come to us and just the way it worked out that day. He was in it from the very beginning.”
