LONDON, England, November 15, 2002 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Doctors used ultrasound to perform a micro-surgical technique to dilate the child’s underdeveloped pulmonary valves while the baby was still in the womb 18 months ago. It is something that has been successful only half of the 14 times it has been attempted and which has yielded only one long-term survivor so far. In this latest case, the child is healthy and surviving well to date, and doctors are pronouncing it a success in The Lancet. Dr. Helena Gardiner, the lead researcher, wrote in a research letter to The Lancet: “With more experience, better equipment and a growing understanding of the foetus, this technique could be developed to help other unborn babies in danger of heart failure.” To read the letter to The Lancet (log-in required) see under “research letters” at: https://www.thelancet.com/journal/current For related coverage see: CANADIANS JOIN U.S. GROUPS IN PRAISING BUSH’S RECLASSIFYING FOETUS AS UNBORN CHILD https://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2002/feb/02020101.html BRAIN SURGERY ON UNBORN BABY https://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/1999/jun/99062102.html
