JENISON, Michigan, September 26, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) The bittersweet dream of a Michigan mom who gave her life for her unborn baby has sadly come true.

Carrie DeKlyen had told her husband Nick about a dream that she was rocking a baby girl when she found out months ago she was expecting.

But Carrie DeKlyen did not get to hold her daughter in this life.

The 37-year-old mom of six passed away September 9 after weeks in a coma. Her daughter, Life Lynn, born September 6 at 24 weeks with Carrie DeKlyen still unconscious, followed her mother in passing just 11 days later on September 20.

Nick DeKlyen recalled that dream and its significance after his baby daughter’s death last Wednesday.

“Now the dream she told me is now making sense,” he said. “I never thought it would be heaven, but I know that is what she is doing. She is rocking her daughter in heaven.”

The family had announced Life Lynn’s death Thursday via their Facebook page, The Detroit News reported.

“It is with great sadness and an absolutely broken heart that I tell you Life Lynn passed away last night,” they said. “Carrie is now rocking her baby girl. I have no explanation of why this happened, but I do know Jesus loves us and someday we will know why. The grief we feel is almost unbearable, please be praying for our family.”

Life Lynn was buried Friday next to her mother.

Carrie DeKlyen learned she had Glioblastoma multiforme, a highly malignant form of brain cancer, in April. Doctors tried twice to remove her tumor.

Not long after they received the diagnosis, the family learned she was pregnant with Life Lynn.

Carrie DeKlyen had been accepted for a University of Michigan clinical trial that doctors said could have extended her life, but taking part would mean sacrificing Life Lynn.

The DeKlyens declined the treatment in hopes of giving their baby girl life.

Carrie DeKlyen had been in intensive care in a coma since suffering a stroke in late July. The family prayed she could hold on until Life Lynn would have the best chance at life outside the womb. Giving birth to Life Lynn was one of her last wishes.

Extended family and members of their church community helped look after the couple’s other children ages 2 to 18 while Nick Deklyen, 39, was by his wife’s side in the hospital. They expressed their faith in God’s plan during this time as well

DeKlyen gave birth to Life Lynn by C-section after the child reached the age considered the earliest a baby can survive outside the womb. She weighed 1 pound, 4 ounces when she was born.

Life Lynn did well at first, having at least one scare the week her mother died. However, one of the baby’s lungs developed a leak before it collapsed and she passed away.

“I told her Daddy loves her and to hang on and keep fighting, but that didn’t work,” Nick DeKlyen said. “She’s in heaven with Mommy now.”

DeKlyen said he was trying to make sense of losing both his wife and baby, and that he was going to try to move on, love his children and be there for them.

“The Bible says that it rains on the just and the unjust,” he said. “There are just things you can’t explain. I wish I had the answer as to why my wife died and my daughter died. Regardless of what happened, I still chose to follow God and do it his way. When I get to heaven one day, I will ask why. I know he has a reason for everything.”

The family’s GoFundMe page is helping with medical costs.
