MONTREAL, QUEBEC, March 30, 2005, (LifeSiteNews.com) – A children’s picture book describing the wedding plans of two lesbians was mailed to all MP’s in Ottawa and demonstrate that the consequences of the ideological push to change the traditional meaning of marriage continue to manifest themselves with the help of federal funding.
Entitled “Mom and Mum are Getting Married!”, authored by Ken Setterington, and published by Second Story Press, a Toronto publishing company, the book is described in a cover letter to MPs as “a gentle story for young children that celebrates the joyous planning of a wedding where the happy couple happens to be two women.”
In a Western Catholic Reporter (WCR) article by Deborah Gyapong dated for the week of March 28th Conservative MP Jason Kenney is quoted after discovering the book in his mail March 21: “It’s wrong to confuse children about some of the most basic elements about biology and human nature,” Kenney said, noting the father of the two children in the story is never mentioned, and the book refers to the possibility of another baby as if children just appear by magic.
Gwen Landolt of Real Women of Canada is also quoted as saying “This is only the beginning of what’s in store if same-sex marriage is passed into law,”…“This is not education, this is indoctrination.”
The WCR states that Second Story Press admitted monies from several government sources contributed to the writing and publication of this book. Funding sources included the Ontario Arts Council, the Canada Council for the Arts, the federal governments Book Publishing Industry Development Program and the Ontario government’s Ontario Book Initiative through the Ontario Media Development Corporation. However, it must be noted that government grants do not go individual projects but to the publishing company itself, which then uses the funds to aid individual writers or projects.
As the movement towards normalizing same-sex marriage progresses the corresponding push to publish “pro-gay” literature for children, as well as change the curriculum within the schools, also progresses.
