May 17, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) – Never before in history have Christians had to live their faith in such a heroic manner since the time of the early Church. It is vital for our salvation and the spread of the Gospel that we start living heroic Catholicism. As Bishop Jenky said, “We can no longer be Catholics by accident, but instead Catholics by conviction.”

This is why Serviam Ministries is hosting its 11th event, “Heroic Catholicism,” on May 28th in Toronto. “We want to equip Catholics in their faith, to live it boldly and be confident when sharing Christ with others,” explains David Gilbert, co-founder of Serviam Ministries. “Our culture needs Christians to stand up for what is right and proclaim the truth in love.” You can watch the promo video below (warning: not suitable for children).

The day will be filled with prayer and fellowship, including rosary, booths of local ministries to visit, and a prayer room with a box for intentions the Sisters of Our Lady Immaculate will ensure are prayed for. Tim Staples from Catholic Answers and Tanya Granic Allen will give a total of 5 talks (Staples 3, Allen 2) followed by a question and answer period to close the day.

Tim Staples is Director of Apologetics and Evangelization at Catholic Answers and world renowned Catholic apologist, author, and speaker. He will show how Christian theological and moral principles for action can transform our daily lives and how we must act in Christ for the good without compromise. Tanya Granic Allen is a Canadian writer, blogger, speaker, and media commentator. She will be using her experiences on Canadian soil to encourage Catholics to put their faith into action by doing good works and by getting involved politically.

In his talk “5 Non-Negotiables,” Tim will tackle the topics of abortion, euthanasia, embryonic stem cell research, cloning, and so-called homosexual “marriage”. He will demonstrate and explain how all of these things are intrinsic evils that can never be voted for or supported in any way by Catholics.  In fact, these so-called “laws” are not laws at all; rather, they are “acts of violence” Catholics can never obey and are obligated to oppose using every licit and reasonable means available to them. With Tanya’s Canadian political experience she will be able to offer tangible ways for Catholics to get involved politically to impact our culture.

Confronting our culture can be daunting, but both speakers will provide tools on how to effectively engage our culture while not being changed by it. Tanya believes this is one of the most difficult struggles facing Catholics today. “Catholics are finding it difficult to live in a culture which seems to be so against them. A culture of death with governments seeking to silence Catholics.”

But there is no reason to be discouraged. Tim and Tanya will inspire, challenge and provide concrete ways to overcome personal fears and doubts, so as to live our lives as God is calling us to. “We are at a crossroads as Catholics,” Tanya challenges. “Do we go the way of the world, and lose our souls in the process? Or do we take up our cross and follow Him?”

Serviam Ministries has been hosting events in Toronto since 2012 with the goal of building the kingdom of God by bringing people into a deeper relationship with Christ and His Church. They do this in other ways, too, including online catechesis and evangelization through their website, video and social media. David and Theresa Gilbert, founders of the lay apostolate, left their careers and sold their house to delve into fulltime ministry 6 years ago. You can learn more about their story and the ministry by watching the video above and visiting their website www.serviamministries.com.
