Hillary Clinton and Planned Parenthood president, Cecile Richards

May 1, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) — Cecile Richards has finally stepped down from Planned Parenthood, and Hillary Clinton marked the occasion with a tweet pro-lifers are panning for grim irony.

Richards announced in January she would be retiring after twelve years as the abortion giant’s president, and stepped down on Tuesday. She ended her run with an annual salary of almost $1 million, and presided over the abortions of an estimated 3.5 million babies.

The day before, failed 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton tweeted a thank-you for Richards for “getting up every single day to fight for a world where women's rights truly are human rights.”

The Daily Wire rounded up a variety of responses to the tweet calling out the invocation of “human rights” for a business that kills preborn humans in the womb:

Last week, Playboy published an interview asking Richards when she believed human life began, to which she claimed that “I’ve spent a lot of time with ob-gyns, and they will tell you there is no specific moment when life begins.”

In fact, long-settled biological criteria establishes that a distinct, living human exists once fertilization has occurred. Richards’ counterpart in the United Kingdom, British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) chief executive Ann Furedi, admitted in 2008 that a fetus was “clearly human in the sense that it’s not a gerbil, and we can recognize that it is human life.”

Students for Life of America noted Clinton’s greeting, as well, observing that it placed her in strikingly dubious company:

Citing Planned Parenthood’s most recent annual report, the pro-life Radiance Foundation commemorated Richards’ retirement by detailing how Planned Parenthood increased abortions while decreasing actual medical services for women under her leadership.

From fiscal years 2006 to 2016, Planned Parenthood’s annual abortions rose almost eleven percent. During that same period, breast cancer screenings declined 62%, pap tests declined 72%, and prenatal care declined 30%.

During that period, Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding also rose 62%, and Richards’ own salary skyrocketed 201%.
