LOS ANGELES, Apr 22 (LSN) – U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan has stepped up a campaign to get celebrity endorsements for his emerging world government. Los Angeles Lakers basketball star Earvin “Magic” Johnson is the latest addition to a host of celebrities promoting the UN. After introducing Johnson as a “messenger of peace” today at a news conference, Annan attended a reception hosted by Jack Valenti, president of the Motion Picture Association of America, to recruit more celebrities.  This latest effort at self-promotion comes as the United Nations claims to be teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, due to the United States’ refusal to pay “outstanding dues.” US pro-life Republicans, led by New Jersey Rep. Chris Smith, have said they will refuse funds for the UN and International Monetary Fund, if they would be used to provide abortions. Due to the pro-abortion intransigence of the UN, the IMF, and President Bill Clinton, it seems likely US funding will prove unworkable.  So far, the UN’s celebrity spokesmen include singers Luciano Pavarotti and Enrico Macias, actors Jane Fonda, Danny Glover, and Linda Gray, and cellist Mstislav Rostropovich.
