(LifeSiteNews) — Father Heinz Angehrn, a retired priest of the Swiss diocese of St. Gallen, claimed in an interview that bishops in Switzerland knowingly consecrated and tolerated homosexual men in the clergy.

Angehrn retired in 2018 and openly lives in a same-sex relationship. In a recent interview with the Swiss Catholic news outlet kath.ch, he said that he “came out” as an active homosexual when he was 45 years old.

When Angehrn told his bishop, Ivo Fürer, that he lives in a same-sex relationship, Fürer was content and allegedly said [d]on’t keep this a secret. I’d rather know who my gay priests are and who they are with than not know what they’re doing.”

The only condition was that my partner’s name could not be on the front door while I was a priest. Those were the rules of the game,” Angehrn told kath.ch.

Fürer, who died in July this year, was the initiator and host of the infamous St. Gallen Mafia, a group of bishops who promoted the homosexual agenda and allegedly plotted a scheme to elect Jorge Mario Bergoglio as Pope. The group met in St. Gallen between 1996 to 2006, according to Fürer’s own statements. The Swiss prelate was the bishop of St. Gallen from 1995 to 2005.

When Angehrn was asked about Adamim, a “gay pastoral care association for homosexual members of the clergy in Switzerland, he said:

Most of the men there today are between 55 and 80 years old. They no longer have the energy to come out after so many years. Younger ones have not come out – although of course we still know of many gay priests. But they wear Roman collars now. They’ll go to the sex sauna and live their lives on the side, but they won’t come to Adamim. By the way, this is a good way to move up in the church and become a canon or bishop.

Furthermore, Angehrn told a story about an unnamed former bishop of Chur who knowingly consecrated a priest who lived in a same-sex relationship with another priest:

I’ll just say this much: many years ago, a then-bishop of Chur ordained a priest, knowing that he had already been in a relationship with another priest. When I asked him why he was doing this, he said, “Do you think, Mr. Angehrn, that truthfulness has a high value in the Catholic Church?” That was absolutely shocking.

The consecration of an active homosexual is against the expressed orders of the Holy See. According to a decree by the Congregation for Catholic Education that was approved by Pope Benedict XVI in 2005, the Church “cannot admit to the seminary or to holy orders those who practise homosexuality, present deep-seated homosexual tendencies or support the so-called gay culture’”

The Swiss priest also said that he believes that around 30% of priests and bishops in Switzerland are same-sex attracted and that most of them engage in homosexual acts.

Moreover, Anghern claimed that there would be regular “binge drinking” events in Catholic parishes and that many priests were alcoholics.

I have witnessed a few very serious cases. People who have perished because of it. But I am always amazed at how long an alcoholic priest can still get by and still function. When I was young, people drank relentlessly at every opportunity. These are forms of compensation for having to behave so well and be there for everyone.

While alcohol can be licitly consumed in moderation, drunkenness is condemned as a sin by the Church because it compromises  reason and is a violation of the virtue of temperance, according to such authorities as St. Thomas Aquinas.

Getting drunk deliberately represents an abuse of alcohol as it is directly aimed at compromising human reason, altering the consumer’s capacity to think clearly.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that “[t]he virtue of temperance disposes us to avoid every kind of excess: the abuse of food, alcohol, tobacco, or medicine.” (CCC 2290)

Similar claims to that of Anghern about the percentage of homosexuals in the clergy have been made by others, like Polish priest Fr. Dariusz Oko, who stated that “[a]ccording to reliable estimates, it is estimated that about 30-40% of priests and 40-50% of bishops in the USA have homosexual inclinations.
