WASHINGTON, November 13, 2002 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Two homosexuals removed from their positions as Boy Scout leaders failed in their legal bid for reinstatement. The District of Columbia (D.C.) Commission on Human Rights had ruled last year that Boy Scouts of America had discriminated against the two men, Roland D. Pool and Michael Geller, but this week the D.C. Court of Appeals overruled the commission, ruling that Scouting officials were acting within their rights in barring them. The appellate court invoked a 5-4 Supreme Court ruling from June 2000 that the Scouts could legally bar homosexuals from serving as troop leaders on grounds that “forcing” the Scouts to accept homosexual troop leaders would violate the organization’s First Amendment right of “expressive association.” To read the District of Columbia Court of Appeals ruling see: https://www.dcca.state.dc.us
