WASHINGTON, March 20, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The U.S. House of Representatives voted 315 to 113 yesterday for bankruptcy reform that makes it harder for people to evade their debts by filing for bankruptcy. The vote was important for pro-lifers, who were the target of Democratic amendments designed to curtail their free speech.  The changes have been held up in Congress for years by, among other factors, Democratic efforts to attach special pro-abortion measures that empower liberal judges to shut down pro-lifers by imposing huge fines to ruin their finances.  The Senate is still debating the pro-abortion measures. Senator Charles E. Schumer, Democrat of New York and a leading pro-abortionist, wants to ensure that they remain part of the law. “Just as creditors need protection from abuses of the bankruptcy law, so do women who are trying to protect their constitutionally given rights,” Schumer said.  For New York Times coverage:  https://www.nytimes.com/2003/03/20/politics/20BANK.html   For related coverage:  PRO-ABORTION DEMOCRATS FIGHT FOR ANTI-LIFE BANKRUPTCY WEAPON https://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2003/mar/03031706.html
