WACO, Texas, January 30, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A memorial park in Waco dedicated to the memory of the preborn babies murdered by abortion was found vandalized on January 26. An employee from a business near the site noticed a wide swath had been cut through the 4,000 white crosses that symbolize the number of children killed by abortion each day in America.

Rusty Lee Thomas of Elijah Ministries, founder of Rachel’s Park Memorial, said the site has been vandalized before but never to the extent discovered on Saturday.

The display of steel rebar-reinforced white crosses spreading over about two acres of land was extensively damaged. However, Thomas noted that the main feature of the memorial park, The Tomb of the Unknown Baby, which contains the remains of a tiny victim of abortion, was undamaged.

Thomas said it was evident that a vehicle had been driven through the area, entering the memorial park by knocking over part of the picket fence that encloses site, and leaving a swath of damage 12 ½ ft by 136 ft through the memorial site, with approximately 600 crosses, rebar, oil, two tires, and parts of a vehicle's underside littering the park.

“It appears the animosity against the preborn knows no bounds,” Thomas said.

“Not only are we content as a nation to stand back and allow the preborn to die through the sin and crime of abortion, but now there are those among us who seek to destroy the very memory of these children as well.”

“We pray the Lord will take this desecration and lead justice to victory and those responsible for this evil act will repent, find forgiveness in Christ, and make restitution,” Thomas said.

Eric Scheidler, Executive Director of the Pro-Life Action League, said the vandalism at Rachel’s Park Memorial is a sad testimony to the intolerance of abortion advocates.

“The desecration of the memorial site in Waco, Texas, dedicated to the victims of abortion is sadly typical of abortion advocates' intolerance for any serious reflection on the harm abortion is doing to our society, especially the 3,500 unborn children killed each day,” Scheidler said in a press release.

“We're seeing the same thing in Planned Parenthood's new marketing strategy that pretends ‘pro-life’ and ‘pro-choice’ are just ‘labels,’ and don't actually represent a serious moral difference — anything to sabotage frank discussion of abortion,” Scheidler said.

John Pisciotta, director of Pro-Life Waco, expressed “shock” at the attack.

“What a contrast between the peaceful pro-life Rally for Life at the steps of the State Capital for the occasion of 40 years of Roe v. Wade, and the brutal destruction at Rachel’s Park Memorial,” Pisciotta said. “The supporters of ’choice’ cannot even tolerate a memorial in honor of the pre-born babies lost to abortion.”
