OTTAWA, May 17 ( – The law governing new reproductive technologies, promised by Health Minister Allan Rock for later this year, may allow for human embryos left-over from in vitro fertilization to be adopted by other infertile couples. Through an access to information request, the Ottawa Citizen learned that studies commissioned by the government on the issue suggest that normal adoption regulations could be applied to embryo adoption.

Such regulation would create a strange paradox since the adoption of regular adoption procedures for embryos will demonstrate a level of concern for them. This would be in stark contrast to the way unborn human life is treated today.
