TORONTO, September 8, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – In a great disappointment to the pro-life movement, 100 Huntley Street founder David Mainse, who recently went to work full-time to defend the traditional definition of marriage, has endorsed a pro-abortion politician for the leadership of the Liberal Party.  The Globe and Mail reported Friday that Mainse attempted to raise $75,000 for a Liberal leadership bid for MP John Bryden.  Bryden is apparently opposed to same-sex marriage.  The Globe reports that Bryden refused the offering saying, “I’d be pegged as a single-issue candidate against same-sex marriage, and I don’t want to go down that route.”  Jim Hughes of Campaign Life Coalition told LifeSite, “I can’t understand why David would spend any money promoting a pro-abortion politician to head the Liberal Party. Perhaps he was mislead.”  Mainse’s brother-in-law is Liberal Senator David Smith.  Smith is known as a long time political pragmatist who is not pro-life.  See the Globe and Mail coverage:  https://www.globeandmail.ca/servlet/story/RTGAM.20030904.umart0905/BNStory/National/
