LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (LifeSiteNews) — Cardinal Raymond Burke sent a message of thanks and support to the readers of the traditional Catholic Fr. Z’s blog.

On August 3, Burke spoke from the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Wisconsin, thanking the readership of Fr. John Zuhlsdorf for prayers for his recovery last year and offering encouragement amid increasing restrictions on the Traditional Latin Mass.

“I am with you,” Burke addressed the readers of the traditional Catholic blog. “I sense the suffering of the tumultuous time in which we’re living in the Church.”

“And I simply want to encourage you that each one of us in his own her own way can continue to serve the Lord faithfully with trust in His words to us, that He remains with us always in the Church and that His grace will never be lacking to us,” he continued.

“It’s not easy to understand sometimes God’s permissive will, but our faith teaches us to trust and that His providence will prevail,” Burke declared.

The message was addressed to the readers of the traditional Catholic Fr. Z’s Blog. The author, a diocesan priest who celebrates the Latin Mass, Fr. Zuhlsdorf provides commentary and insight on current Catholic issues.

“We try to point our discussions back to what it is to be Catholic in this increasingly difficult age, to love God, and how to get to heaven,” Zuhlsdorf wrote.

Throughout his posts, Zuhlsdorf voices support of the Latin Mass, especially as traditional Masses are increasingly cancelled.

Last month, Cardinal Wilton Gregory placed severe restrictions on the Traditional Mass in his Archdiocese of Washington, limiting the sacred liturgy to three churches, to be celebrated only on Sundays, and completely banning traditional sacraments.

Cardinal Burke has consistently voiced support for the Latin Mass, defending Tradition against new documents published by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments (CDW).

In February 2022, Burke declared that the Responsa, a document placing severe restrictions on the traditional sacraments and Traditional Latin Mass, is binding “only inasmuch as they are coherent with the doctrine and discipline of the Church, according to the fundamental principle of the regula iuris [rule of law], which, when it is not respected, makes the law an arbitrary tool in the hands of individuals advancing a particular ideology or agenda.”
