But the reality is that abortion is legal in India on completely open-ended “socio-medical grounds”—but the law purports to “eliminate” abortion “by untrained persons” and under “unhygienic” conditions. The motivation is not to save the lives of the unborn, but to reduce “maternal morbidity and mortality.”
Due to India’s devastating and ongoing abortion experience, the Washington Post reported this week that 50 million women are “missing” from India’s population—based on a UNICEF study of unborn girls aborted out of a continuing, strong cultural preference for boys.
