NEW DELHI, September 12, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – India’s Hindu nationalist government has informed the country’s courts that it will not legislate in favour of homosexuality in the country, on grounds that “Indian society is intolerant to the practice of homosexuality/ lesbianism.”  Homosexual activists under the guise of an NGO, the New Delhi-based Naz AIDS Foundation, had submitted a petition against Section 377 of the Penal Code, which states: “whoever voluntarily has sex against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal, shall be punished with imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years.”  A government commission reported that public disapproval of homosexuality remains “strong enough to justify it being treated as a criminal offence even where the adults indulge in it in private.” To change this legal framework, it said, could “well open the flood gates of delinquent behaviour and be construed as providing unbridled licence for the same.”  For local coverage:  https://www.indianexpress.com/full_story.php?content_id=31224
