BLOOMINGTON, Indiana, November 14, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) — Ignoring the expressed concerns of local citizens and following the lead of a pro-abortion mayor, an Indiana county is funneling taxpayer money to Planned Parenthood.

The Monroe County Council has voted to grant Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky a $2,000 “Community Service” grant and another local abortion business, All Options, a $3,250 allotment of taxpayer funds.

Outside the Monroe County Courthouse before the meeting, nearly 50 angry abortion activists chanted “We are unstoppable!” On the courthouse lawn, they expressed their outrage at the results of Tuesday's elections.

Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton, a pro-abortion Democrat in the city that’s home to Indiana University, encouraged the abortion activists, advising them to unify and re-energize. “We stand for what we stand for, and I’m proud of that,” he said in support of abortion rights.

Bloomington's Planned Parenthood is where Live Action's Lila Rose, posing as a pregnant 13 year-old girl raped by a 31-year-old man, was told to how to skirt the law and go out of state for an abortion to protect her rapist's identity.

The Council allowed 35 community members to speak for an hour and 15 minutes, many of whom urged the Council not to give money to the abortion giant.

Councilwoman Marty Hawk moved to defund Planned Parenthood and All Options because of their foundational involvement in abortion. She said other recipients, such as the Indiana Recovery Alliance, Girls Inc., and Middle Way House were deserving, but not abortion businesses.

Zachary Branham opposed the grant, explaining that hormones in chemical contraceptives are detrimental to women's health. The youngster outlined a recent report from the U.S. Geological Survey that found birth control hormones being excreted by women were finding their way into waterways and eventually into the drinking supply, possibly causing cancer, infertility and gender dysphoria, according to an eyewitness commenter.

The World Health Organization ranks the synthetic estrogen found in hormonal contraceptives as a Group 1 carcinogen, potentially affecting aquatic ecosystems and anyone who drinks water.

Branham's relatives, Rhonda and Katie, also argued against the grant. Katie Branham acknowledged that even though the county grant would be earmarked as not for abortions, the money nonetheless helps fund the nation's largest abortion agent of children. Quoting Mother Teresa, Katie told the council, “Abortion is the greatest destroyer of love.”

Indiana Right to Life's Mike Fichter said local pro-lifers aren't giving up. “The pro-life community is gravely disappointed in the Monroe County Council’s decision to fund Bloomington’s only abortion center, Planned Parenthood,” he said. “We urge Monroe County residents to be vigilant in working towards ending this funding in the future. Taxpayers deserve better.”

Mayor Hamilton also strongly supports LGBTQ anti-discrimination laws. “Our community will not waver in our support for equal opportunity and diversity,” he said, criticizing conservatives who disagreed with the watering down of Indiana's Religious Freedom Restoration Act.
