May 3, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) – One of America’s biggest LGBT advocacy organizations issued a report Monday claiming that Hollywood films aren’t pro-gay enough.

The LGBT advocacy group GLAAD released its Studio Responsibility Index, which measures the “quantity, quality, and diversity of LGBT people in films” from the seven largest motion picture studios and their subsidiaries during 2015.

The report’s overall conclusion was that only 17.5 percent of the 126 major releases last year featured LGBT characters. They say “there was only one trans-inclusive film among all releases by major studios,” and there was a lack of racial diversity amongst the LGBT characters portrayed.

“Hollywood's films lag far behind any other form of media when it comes to portrayals of LGBT characters,” said Sarah Kate Ellis, GLAAD President & CEO, in a statement.

“Hollywood could make all of its characters LGBTQetc and GLAAD would still demand changes to scripts,” Dan Gainor, Vice President of Business and Culture at the Media Research Center, told LifeSiteNews.  “GLAAD is an extremist group with an extremist agenda to overturn traditional marriage and relationships.”

“Hollywood has been pushing the gay agenda since Billy Crystal played the first scripted gay character on Soap in the 1970s,” said Gainor.  “Since then, TV and movies have become so filled with LGBT plotlines that most Americans think the gay population is at least 20% or more than 10 times what it really is.”

GLAAD gave three of the studios it judged a “Failing” grade and four an “Adequate” grade.  The LGBT advocacy group recommended a larger number of LGBT roles in major films, specifically “roles built with substance and purpose.”  There also needs to be more transgenderism in film, GLAAD said, lamenting filmmakers who rely on “thoughtless humor” at the expense of the “marginalized” transgender community.

GLAAD also recommended Hollywood seek to remedy the predominance of white males depicting LGBT characters.

At GLAAD’s 27th Annual Media Awards last month, Ellis told Hollywood, “Our strategy is you: the entertainment industry.”

“2015 was a banner year for the LGBT agenda with gender-bending movies like The Danish Girl and Tangerine leading the pride parade,” said Gainor.  “The year also included films like Grandma, a gay, pro-abortion disaster.”

Pro-family leaders have for years warned that the entertainment industry often pushes dangerous, errant messages on children.   There has also been a rise in pro-transgender children’s literature.

“We’ve all been scorched by the sexual revolution,” Providence College professor and Catholic author Dr. Anthony Esolen wrote in July. “We have to tell ourselves and our children the truth. There is no way to make it sound nice. 'We are Christians, they are not. How God judges them is not ours to know. Our first task is to follow God’s law ourselves, before we can witness to them. We do not fornicate. We do not divorce. We do not engage in sodomy. We do not use porn. We do not flood women’s bodies with synthetic and carcinogenic hormones. We do not care for obscenities in film. We do believe in marriage according to the evident design of God, imprinted upon our bodies male and female. We encourage boys to be boys and girls to be girls.'”
