JerusalemJERUSALEM, July 7, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Jerusalem police officials have informed Israeli news services that “World Pride,” the planned week-long gay pride extravaganza that was scheduled to be held in the holy city of Jerusalem from August 6-12, is likely to be moved to Tel Aviv.  While the decision is not yet final, the police, who are to make the final decision on whether or not to permit the event,  said in a statement to the press, “Tel Aviv is more used to such events, and therefore it should take place there also this time.”

Jewish, Muslim and Christian religious and political leaders have put aside their differences and have come together to defend the city against what has been referred to as an “attack.”  Earlier this week, Israel’s Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar formally wrote Pope Benedict XVI asking for help in stopping homosexual activists from staging the event.  The Vatican, via its ambassador, has already expressed its concerns to the Israeli leadership.

Residents of Jerusalem oppose the event as well with over 69 percent opposed and only 12 percent expressing support according to a recent poll.

Police officials are hoping that the homosexual activist organizers of the event will not force them to decide to bar the event in Jerusalem.  They told local press that should a request to hold the event in Tel Aviv be submitted, “it would make it easier on the police to authorize it.”
