DUBLIN, Dec 3 (LSN) – In an announcement that sounded the death-knell for an Irish baby, Irish national broadcaster RTE reported on Wednesday that the 13-year-old alleged rape victim at the centre of a two-week abortion case had left the country.

“The 13-year-old pregnant rape victim has travelled to England for an abortion,” RTE said. The news emerged when a lawyer for the Eastern Health Board, the local authority which had held the girl against her parents’ wishes since she was allegedly raped, told the High Court she was no longer under its jurisdiction. On Monday, following two weeks of legal attempts to save the baby’s life, the girl was given permission to travel abroad for an abortion.
