DUBLIN, Ireland, March 24, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Prime Minister of Ireland, Bertie Ahern, will officiate at the opening ceremony for the new offices of Ireland’s top homosexual activist organization on April third. Mr. Ahern’s endorsement of the Gay and Lesbian Equality Network (GLEN) will be the first time an Irish government leader has officially supported homosexual activism.

Gregory Carlin of the Irish Anti-Trafficking Agency told LifeSiteNews.com that Ahern was being naëve trying to appease the homosexual activist group.“GLEN is unlikely to accept civil partnerships. In my opinion they will settle for nothing less than the outcome which was successfully sought by EGALE – homosexual ‘marriage’.” Carlin, is convinced that the Irish will never accept homosexual ‘marriage’.

The Taoiseach has allied himself with the gay agenda in the past, speaking out in favour of giving homosexual couples societal benefits which are normally awarded to married couples for the benefit they provide society by the propagation of children.Â

In January Mr. Ahern endorsed an Oireachtas committee whichÂrecommended the establishment of a civil partnership system that would give homosexual couples most of the rights of married couples. The government is expected to enact the legislation in 2006.

A recent poll by a major Irish newspaper showed the country is split on the issue, with 51% indicating support for same-sex “marriage.”

To express concerns to the Prime Minister:

An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern TD
Government Buildings, Upper Merrion Street, Dublin 2.
