November 4, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – Despite the mainstream media’s insistence that infanticide is a myth, there are abundant firsthand accounts of nurses who say they personally witnessed infants deliberately left to die by hospital staff for no other reason than the fact that their mothers didn’t want them.

Jill Stanek, a former nurse and prominent pro-life blogger who is now with the Susan B. Anthony List, appeared on last week’s episode of The Van Maren Show to discuss the problem of infanticide, from her personal experiences in Illinois to the experiences of other nurses and the broader political battle. During the interview, she relayed several particularly horrifying stories.

Stanek relayed some of the experiences of Alison Baker, another nurse who has testified before Congress about infanticide. “She said she herself inherited a patient one time who had just delivered a baby alive,” Stanek said. “And the baby was in the soiled utility room because she didn't want anything to do with him. And so Allison still had to care for two patients. And she would go into the mom's room and the mom would say to her, ‘Is he dead yet?’”

Another unnamed nurse told Stanek she was haunted by the case of a baby born at 23 weeks, who was considered “right on that line” of viability according to the medical knowledge of 1999. “The mom wasn't gonna be able to complete her pregnancy to term,” so her doctor had given her a choice of whether she wanted to “try to hold on and we'll give you medications to try and strengthen the baby's lungs, give the baby a fighting chance, or do you just want to abort, just want to get it over with.”

The mother decided, “I just wanted to abort,” despite the fact that the infant was “showing signs of perking up without any help,” and that if she had been wanted, “four specialists from the neonatal unit would have been sent over just specifically to care for this baby.” Instead, “the only people present at her delivery was my nurse friend and an OB/GYN resident,” and the child “was just kept in the department and wrapped for the two and a half hours that she lived.”

Tessa Longbons, a Charlotte Lozier research associate, told Congress in September that CDC data found 143 infant deaths from 2003 to 2014 that had been coded as induced abortion or spontaneous miscarriage, which “may be a considerable undercount” as just seven states (Arizona, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Oklahoma, and Texas) have provided data on at least 160 babies to survive abortions.

Republicans have proposed legislation to require abortionists to transfer infants who survive abortions to hospitals, where they would be given the same degree of care as any wanted newborn, as well as to require states to report instances of a child being delivered alive after an attempted abortion.

Democrats have repeatedly blocked the first of those measures; readers can click here to read, sign, and share LifeSiteNews’ petition urging the U.S. House to vote on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.
