CBC reported yesterday that the Quebec coroner’s office is investigating the case of a man who was taken off life support. The man’s family says doctors at the Montreal Jewish General Hospital tried to convince them to agree to take him off the respirator, eventually telling them that the decision wasn’t theirs to make, when the family refused to cooperate. The family says it is considering legal action.  According to the CBC report, the patient’s son, George Krausz, told doctors his father wanted to stay on the respirator. “He said his father communicated with family members by nods and by blinking his eyes and he enjoyed their visits.” The hospital said the medical staff provided professional, ongoing, and open communication with the patient and his family.
