WASHINGTON, D.C., September 7, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) – A ticker on the I Vote Pro Life First website counts down to minutes and seconds: 59 days before the November election.

Meanwhile, leaders are telling the masses of pro-life youth across America, most visible when they deluge Washington in the annual March for Life, that the result will be up to them.

“We want pro-lifers across the United States to understand just how important this election is for our nation,” Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America, told youth in a webcast Thursday evening. “We are on the cusp of abolishing abortion in our country.”

The webcast hosted top pro-life national leaders as they coached listeners on how to make the most of their efforts this election season. Hawkins, speaking for the I Vote Pro-Life First Coalition, called on volunteers to get out the vote and to pledge to keep the unborn the top priority in the voting booth.

Jill Stanek reminded the audience of what the pro-life movement is up against in Barack Obama. She personally testified before the future president in an Illinois state senate committee hearing years ago over the Born Alive Infant Protection Act.

“He argued with me on the committee,” Stanek recalled. “He was the only state senator to speak against it on the state Senate floor.”

Former GOP presidential contender Rick Santorum urged the young adults to take action to ensure Obama’s defeat and the end of the federal health care law, which he called the tip of the iceberg for an emerging “utilitarian view of human life” in America.

“When you have the federal government involved in healthcare as a budget item,” said Santorum, “the most common way that healthcare costs are controlled … is to ration care, and they do so based upon age, disabilities, life expectancies.”

Besides Obama, leaders also reminded the youth of another opponent crucial to keep in the focus of their activism.

Although a recent poll found a large percentage of young people unaware Planned Parenthood does abortions, the youth-recruiting organization is in fact America’s number one abortion provider—and a top financier of pro-abortion politicians. The only way to abolish abortion in this country, they said, is to break the cycle of money and political power perpetuated by Planned Parenthood.

“[Planned Parenthood’s] budget is a billion dollars a year,” said Troy Newman of Operation Rescue. “Almost half of that money comes from you and me the taxpayers – and that money, the money we give them, is pumped back into politics to re-elect pro-abortion politicians who then give them more money and increase their budget.”

Other speakers on the webcast included Lila Rose of Live Action, Allan Parker of the Justice Foundation, and Eric Scheidler with the Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rallies.
