ROME, July 12, 2002 (LSN.ca) Four lawsuits by parents against doctors who had prescribed the morning after pill and birth control pills to their underage children were all individually unsuccessful. However, collectively they have produced a result. The Italian counseling gynecologists association (Agico) has decided to stop prescribing the abortifacients to underage girls until the law is amended to give doctors immunity from lawsuits. Dr. Luigi Cerzosimo, president of Agico, is looking to have the law specify that doctors are allowed to prescribe such drugs to underage girls without parental consent or notification.
