STOCKHOLM, September 17, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Public masturbation does not necessarily violate the law, according to two separate rulings from a Swedish court.

On June 6, a 65-year-old man began to masturbate in the water at Drevviken beach, a lake just south of Stockholm, leading to a charge of sexual assault.

The Södertörn District Court ruled that, although “the man exposed himself and masturbated on this occasion,” he violated no law because he did not specifically target anyone.

Olof Vrethammar, the prosecutor, told Swedish media he would not appeal the decision and affirmed that public masturbation is “OK.”

“For this to be a criminal offence it's required that the sexual molestation was directed towards one or more people. I think the court's judgement is reasonable,” he said.

The same court recently acquitted a 15-year-old boy of a similar charge, after he exposed his genitalia to two underage girls. The girls had insisted the boy be charged and put on trial.
