CALGARY, October 25, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A Lethbridge, Alberta man who beat his pregnant ex-girlfriend in order to induce an abortion is going to jail.

The Alberta Court of Appeal ruled yesterday that Patrick William Coulthard’s earlier conditional sentence was not severe enough for the assault which was initiated because the woman refused to abort their child.

“She was pregnant with his child and refused to have an abortion,” Justice Bryan Mahoney stated in his decision, according to a Sun Media report. “The attack caused great risk to the victim and child.”

The woman was jumped from behind by the masked Coulthard, who later admitted his guilt. He beat her in the head and then kicked her in the abdomen three times, which necessitated six stitches. The baby was later delivered in normal health.
