UPDATE Monday June 12, 2023: the location of the rally and procession is at parking lot 13 outside Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California, beginning at 3 p.m. Pacific Time. There will no longer be a procession beginning at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels, as previously reported.

LOS ANGELES (LifeSiteNews) — LifeSiteNews co-founder and editor-in-chief John-Henry Westen will attend and speak at a prayer rally and procession in protest of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ scandalous promotion of anti-Catholic drag “nuns.”

On Friday June 16, Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Catholics and Christians will gather in Southern California to prayerfully reject the Major League Baseball team’s support of the infamous Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. The anti-Catholic group is set to be honored at that night’s game in celebration of “Pride Night.”

Beginning at 4:30 p.m., the event will include a rally – at which Westen will be speaking – and a Eucharistic procession led by Bishop Joseph Strickland.

LifeSiteNews is co-sponsoring the event alongside Catholics for Catholics, Catholic Vote, America Needs Fatima, Church Militant, and Virgin Most Powerful Internet Radio.

“Catholics around the world and especially those local to LA should be outraged by the public acceptance and celebration of a group that openly mocks and blasphemes the Sacred Traditions of the Catholic Church,” reads the original announcement from Catholics for Catholics. “If you are a Catholic or Christian and take your faith seriously, you cannot let such an offense occur against the Sacred Heart of Jesus.”

The organization added that “the response has been overwhelming in a show of support from Americans who see this not just as an attack on one religion but on the American principle of respect for all religions.”

LifeSiteNews has contacted Catholics for Catholics for further details about the event but did not immediately receive a response.

The prayer rally and procession come weeks after the Dodgers initially canceled their plans to present a “Community Hero Award” to the group of self-proclaimed “queer and trans nuns” due to significant backlash from Catholics and conservatives. Members are men who dress in drag “habits” and actively mock the Catholic faith. This year’s “Pride Night” will be the tenth celebrated by the Dodgers.

A week later, however, the team reversed its decision, “offer[ing] our sincerest apologies to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, members of the LGBTQ+ community and their friends and families.” Amid the controversy, three Major League Baseball players have publicly spoken out against the endorsement of the blatantly anti-Catholic group. Catholic pitcher for the Washington Nationals Trevor Williams, Dodgers relief pitcher Blake Treinen, and the team’s longtime star pitcher Clayton Kershaw have all verbalized their criticism of the ongoing scandal.
