Pilgrims in Fatima

November 3, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) — Cardinal Raymond Burke is urging people to join him for an April 4-8 pilgrimage to Fatima to mark the Virgin Mary’s apparitions there 100 years ago.

The Mother of God appeared several times in 1917 to three shepherd children near the tiny village in Portugal as World War I raged in Europe and Russia was in the throes of a bloody Bolshevik Marxist-Leninist revolution.

The four-day Fatima Summit will be “a time to reflect seriously upon the message of Our Lady and how we have responded to it in our daily lives and in our world,” points out Cardinal Burke, well-known for his defense of faith and family, in a video message here:

The pilgrimage will also be “a time to pray, participate in the Holy Mass, engaging in Eucharistic Adoration, and praying daily the Rosary, in order to more fully engage ourselves in the new evangelization, as already Our Lady was indicating the path in her apparitions at Fatima.”

Between May 13 and October 13, 1917, the Blessed Mother appeared regularly to brother and sister Jacinta and Francisco Marto, then aged 7 and 9 respectively, and their cousin, 11-year-old Lucia Santos.

She told the three shepherd children to pray, fast, and do penance for the conversion of sinners, in reparation for sins committed against her Immaculate Heart, and to prevent Russia from “spreading her errors across the world.”

The Blessed Mother asked that the pope consecrate Russia to her Immaculate Heart, and she confided secrets to the children, two of which they revealed with her permission, and the last of which, the “third secret of Fatima,” has provoked considerable speculation in the intervening years.

The Mother of God also warned of the coming horrors of World War II and foretold the current war on morality, telling the children that “the final battle between the Lord and the reign of Satan will be about marriage and the family.”

During the Fatima Summit, Cardinal Burke will explain Our Lady’s messages at Fatima and how they should be implemented into the daily life of Catholics, and LifeSiteNews co-founder and editor-in-chief John-Henry Westen will speak about on present-day attacks on marriage and family and how the Fatima message provides a solution to the crisis.

Co-sponsored by Catholic Action for Faith and Family and the World Apostolate of Fatima USA, the pilgrimage includes a visit to the shrines of St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross in Spain, and daily Mass and confession.
