CLEVELAND, Oct 8 (LSN) – Judge Patricia Cleary of Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court denied the request of a young woman convicted of fraud to go on probation rather than serve a jail term so that she could have an abortion.  The Associated Press reported yesterday that Yuriko Kawaguchi, 21, made the request claiming that she was five months’ pregnant and had only 2 weeks left within which to legally abort her child.  Kawaguchi’s lawyer and the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio filed a motion Thursday in U.S.  District Court to have the ruling canceled and another judge appointed to the case claiming that Judge Cleary’s decision was based on her pro-life convictions and not based on Kawaguchi’s crimes.  The Judge maintains her decision was based on the seriousness of the crime, but added “I’m not going to be a hypocrite. I think it worked out swell if that was her desire to abort her child that late.”
