EDMONTON, Jan 19 (LifeSiteNews) – Yesterday dozens of concerned Canadians gathered in front of Anne McLellan’s constituency office to express concern with the Justice Minister’s mishandling’ of the child pornography issue. Roy Beyer, President of Canada Family Action Coalition speaking at the Rally pointed out that Canada’s Minister of Justice should have acted immediately after last years BC Court decisions legalizing child pornography possession to restore the law in order to protect children.

Mr. Beyer illustrated this point by asking “If the BC courts had overturned Canada’s murder law, because it was ‘worded too broadly’, would Canada’s Justice Minister have waited to hear what the courts have to say before restoring the laws against murder? Would she have allowed a ‘flood of murders’ to take place in BC in order to allow the courts to rule on the ‘constitutionality’ of Canada’s murder law’? Of course not, and yet this Justice Minister would have us believe that she is doing everything she can to ‘defend the law’. She could have and should have used the ‘notwithstanding clause’ of our constitution to act in the interests of Canada’s Children. The fact that this government has not taken real steps to restore the child pornography laws is a reflection of where this issue stands in their order of priorities.”

CFAC has led a campaign to collect over 300,000 signatures on a petition to Parliament to restore the law, and has increased pressure on individual MPs through the production and nation-wide distribution of over 600,000 postcards also demanding the law be upheld.
