Kansas Voters Approve Constitutional Amendment Banning Homosexual “Marriage”

TOPEKA, Kansas, April 7, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Kansas voters overwhelmingly approved a constitutional amendment Tuesday banning same-sex “marriage” for the state, making theirs the 19th state to enact such an amendment. The amendment passed by a margin of 70-30.

Wichita’s Immanuel Baptist Church pastor, Rev. Terry Fox, who led the campaign against same-sex “marriage,” said, “We always felt like if Kansans were given an opportunity to vote, they would vote strongly to protect marriage and defend marriage in the way it has traditionally been defined. The real winner here was marriage itself,” he added, according to an abcnews.go.com report.

Kansas Attorney General, Republican Phill Kline, called the amendment “an unfortunate, necessary reaction to activist courts.”

In praising the vote, Concerned Women for America pointed out that Kansas will not be the last state to vote on an amendment, as support for marriage is growing all over the country. A CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll released on Friday reported that 68 percent oppose legalizing same-sex “marriage,” and a majority now supports a federal constitutional amendment.
