FREDERICTON, May 17, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Presse Canadienne is reporting that at the end of June, the only hospital still performing abortions in the province of New Brunswick will end its practice of taking the lives of the unborn at the end of June. The Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton has been the sole hospital performing abortions since Moncton’s South East Health Authority ended the practice in 2002.

Calls to the hospital to confirm the report were not returned by press time.

Abortionist Henry Morgentaler is attempting to use the news to push the provincial government into funding abortions at his private clinic.

Peter Ryan, Executive Director of New Brunswick Right to Life, told LifeSiteNews.com that should the report prove true it would be “wonderful news for New Brunswick’s unborn and their families.”

Ryan added, “We have been calling for this hospital to follow the example of the Moncton Hospital which curtailed abortions at the end of 2002. Just the other day at our March at the Legislature, we were saying how, with more deaths now than births, New Brunswick can ill afford to lose 1,000 babies a year through abortion. Up to 400 of those have been performed at the Chalmers, with the remainder at the Morgentaler facility. Now all we need is for Henry Morgentaler to stop picking on our province’s women and children.”
