CALGARY, AB, May 7 (Lifesitenews.com) – The Calgary Regional Health Authority (CRHA) is trying its best to stop the media frenzy over news of the news of infanticide being practiced at Foothills Hospital in Calgary. Worse still, for abortion apologists, is the fact that news of the macabre practice at other hospitals and abortuaries across the nation is beginning to spread. Police have launched investigations at both Foothills and Edmonton’s Royal Alexandra Hospital.
An interview with Dr. Ian Lange, the regional clinical department head of obstetrics and gynecology for the CRHA, appears in today’s Calgary Herald. In the interview Lange suggests that the only reason why these late term abortions are performed is due to lethal genetic problems detected in prenatal diagnosis. His examples include: “anencephaly, which is no brain, Potter’s syndrome, which is no kidneys, hypoplastic lungs, which for a variety of reasons are lungs which are underdeveloped and cannot function” but he adds “other extreme examples.”
Writing in today’s National Post, Link Byfield, publisher of the Alberta Report which first broke the story and was forbidden by court order to report on certain facts about the CHRA [again acronym] (incidentally on World Press Freedom Day), contends that those other examples include Down’s Syndrome. Byfield says “we were told Canada doesn’t do late-term abortions. Now we find out doctors do them routinely to eliminate handicapped people from our society, and have secretly expanded into selective infanticide.” Byfield scoffs at doctors who claim these abortions are only suggested for those babies who are “fatally deformed.”
Byfield may be right in his skepticism about the trustworthiness of doctors who support abortion when it comes to this incident. In the same interview in the Calgary Herald, the CHRA’s Dr. Lange says that “We don’t use the term ‘genetic termination,’ we use ‘induction of labour for infants with a lethal abnormality.’” However, in a letter to Calgary Centre MP Jason Kenney signed by Dr. Lange, he says, “genetic terminations are performed at the Foothills Medical Centre as per this mandate.” Furthermore Kenney appeared at a press conference today with a Calgary mother who was given the option of undergoing a genetic termination for her now 15-month-old son. The boy, who was also present, was falsely diagnosed in utero with a severe abnormality incompatible with life and is thankful that his Mom opted against a “genetic termination.”
