Member of the Pontifical Academy for Life joins as plaintiff against Catholic pro-abortion US Senators

AUSTERLITZ, NY, July 3, 2001 (LSN.ca) – A legal appeal to Pope John Paul II asking for the public excommunication of Catholic pro-abortion politicians is gaining steam as thousands of Catholic faithful are agreeing to sign on as plaintiffs in the legal action. Judie Brown, President of the American Life League and a corresponding member of the Pontifical Academy on Life has become a plaintiff in the case entitled “A Canonical Petition to Excommunicate Culture of Death ‘Catholics’”.

Timothy A. Chichester, Executive Director of Yankee Samizdat and originator of the petition told LifeSite that the legal action is directed toward professed Catholic politicians who actively support partial birth infanticide and abortion. Although the petition is currently directed toward US politicians, Chichester is open to nominations of other pro-abortion politicians. Thus far, the petition asks the Pope to direct the public excommunication of fifty-two prominent public figures. Among those leading the list are Senators Edward Kennedy (D-MA), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Mary Landrieu (D-LA), Joseph Biden (D-DE), Tom Daschle (D-SD), Christopher Dodd (D-CT) and Richard Durbin (D-IL).

The plaintiffs state they “…are professed Catholics who bring this Petition on behalf of themselves as members of the Catholic Church. Non-Catholics join this petition Amicus Curiae as members of other faiths who are stricken by the scandal of notorious Catholics who relentlessly distort the most basic teachings of Christ in their pursuit of a Culture of Death.”
