Dear Editor,

I think it was G.K. Chesterton who said “when reason is eclipsed, monsters are unleashed.”

I once asked a university professor to define “reason”, and he said, “It is the ability of the human mind to know truth.”

The American Constitution says that “all men are created equal”, but still the Americans had a legal system that upheld slavery (see the Dred Scott case).  The truth was eclipsed and lies were enforced legally, by the state.  Monsters were unleashed – life was violated and enslaved.

The Canadian legal system legalized the killing of the unborn in 1988 (editor – it was 1actually 1969) and now there is no law to prevent the death of the unborn right up until birth.  The truth has been eclipsed and monsters have been unleashed.  Three million lives have been destroyed.

In the US, one doctor at the forefront of the legalization of abortion, Dr. Bernard Nathanson, saw and faced this horror, when ultra sound technology provided a “window on the womb.”  He said that he became increasingly convinced that he had presided over the death of thousands of human beings.

Bernard Nathanson stopped performing abortion and became a passionate campaigner for the rights of the most vulnerable in our society, the unborn.  His documentary, “Eclipe of Reason” and his book “Aborting America” are gateways to the truth of abortion.

Dr. Henry Morgentaler, his counterpart in Canada in the early days of the movement to legalize abortion, has tragically continued to eclipse reason and deny what every Canadian knows, that the unborn are part of the human family.  He has tragically contributed to the unleashing of monstrous destruction of human life in our country.

To award him the Order of Canada is itself a monstrous assault on reason.

It is said “the truth will set us free.”  For his sake and the sake of our country, may we face this truth courageously, as Dr. Bernard Nathanson did, and compassionately help heal the untold pain and destruction caused by this monstrous lie.

As the old adage goes, “All it takes for evil to flourish is for good men to remain silent.” Let’s be silent no more.
