PHILADELPHIA, April 12, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The gruesome report of the “house of horrors” abortion clinic run by Kermit Gosnell makes a profound statement about abortion – that it should be legal, according to a number of left-wing media outlets.

Media Matters crafted a preemptive response to the Gosnell “tweetfest” today that generated more than 166,800 tweets in 12 hours.

The liberal organization wrote that Gosnell's Women's Medical Society stands as “an indictment of the outcome if the anti-choice movement achieves its goals.”

“Far from the practices of well-established medical facilities, the Women’s Medical Society was the modern-day back alley, like those in the pre-Roe era where desperate women were butchered,” wrote the group, which is a recipient of George Soros' funding.

Soon the retort pervaded the left side of the internet.

Simon Van Zuylen-Wood forecast on Philadelphia Magazine's blog, “as individual states increasingly restrict abortion rights, more and more illegal clinics, like Gosnell’s may crop up.”

Slate author Amanda Marcotte also picked up the meme. After being tweeted for her opinion she wrote, “Pro-choicers support quality women's health care, and are the enemies of those who force women into underground clinics like Gosnell's.”

Marcotte covered the Gosnell story more than two years ago in an article that blamed abortion opponents for the acts of abortionists.

“When vacuums are created, we shouldn’t be surprised when they suck in a bunch of junk,” it concluded.

But pro-life activists easily parried their attempts at philosophical judo.

“There was nothing 'underground' about #Gosnell clinic,” wrote a California-based writer who goes by the handle “Joe the Patriotic.”

“National Abortion Federation, Board of Medicine looked the other way,” he noted.

Pro-abortion activists long argued that legalizing abortion-on-demand was necessary to prevent the kinds of abuse and malpractice Gosnell stands accused of performing.
