October 21, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The annual Life Chain, held on Sunday, October 6th this year, saw an astounding 1,890 chains take place in 1,552 cities across the United States and Canada, according to Life Chain founder Royce Dunn.

Canada’s Campaign Life Coalition says 206 of these Life Chains took place in Canada, and the numbers of participants at each are still coming in.

Each year Life Chain happens on the first Sunday of October, and its objective is to provide a peaceful and prayerful witness for all of the babies killed in abortion, and to show Christians’ united support for the sanctity of all life.

Life Chain places an emphasis on the leadership and example of pastors and clergy, saying on their website that clergy need to “educate their congregations about abortion and then lead them to the sidewalk where their Chain is to be held.”

Life Chain participants hold signs with messages saying: “Abortion Kills Children,” “Jesus Forgives And Heals,” “Adoption: The Loving Option,” “Lord, Forgive Us And Our Nation,” “Abortion Hurts Women,” “Pray To End Abortion,” and “Life-The First Inalienable Right.”

In one town, Barry’s Bay, Ontario, a town of 1,200 people, 245 pro-lifers attended the Life Chain. Some of these people were staff and students of Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy, while the rest were local parishioners and from surrounding towns.

Next year’s Life Chain has been set for Sunday, October 5, 2014.
