ROME, Mar 30, 2001 (LSN.ca) – Italian Cardinal Camillo Ruini, the head of the Italian Catholic Bishops Conference has issued a Catholic voter’s guide with life and family issues topping the list of concerns. Zenit News reports that numbers 1 and 2 on the list of 10 criteria for Catholics in the current election are:

1. Life: Must be defended in “every moment of its existence.” This implies “integral respect of the embryo” and rejection of cloning and euthanasia.

2. Family: “Founded on matrimony,” it cannot be compared to other forms of living together. An “organic law” is necessary which will offer fiscal aid to couples.

Other concerns mentioned included support for private schools, the poor, immigration, law and order, health care, European unity and international solidarity.
