As a Canadian citizen, I am appalled by the almost total absence of legitimately conservative, national voices in the Canadian media. With our most cherished values under increasing assault, never has there been a greater need for a strong conservative media presence!

That’s why I’m thrilled to tell you about the massive growth in LifeSite’ Canadian readership and operations in the past year.

In fact, in just the past 6-months, Canadian traffic to LifeSite has more than doubled!

Meanwhile, the number of Canadians receiving our email reports and engaging with us on life and family issues by email has increased by 600%!

Now as we begin our Spring fundraising campaign, the increasing demand for pro-life and pro-family news coverage here in Canada has become overwhelming.

With the brewing battle over the graphic sex-ed curriculums in Ontario and Alberta, the attacks on freedom of religion in Quebec, the court-mandated legalization of assisted suicide, and other pressing issues, it has become clear that LifeSite has no choice but to expand our mission in every way possible to address these growing threats.

And that’s why we have recently hired two new talented full-time Canadian journalists that I would like to introduce to you today!

Steve Weatherbe – British Columbia correspondent
Longtime pro-life activist Steve Weatherbe is also one of Canada’s leading veteran Christian journalists, having cut his journalistic teeth working for the Edmonton Report from 1975 to 1991. Other publications he has worked for variously as a journalist, editor, and bureau chief include the Alberta Report, Western Report, the U.S.-based National Catholic Register, the B.C. Catholic, Sunday, and B.C. Christian Info.

His articles have also appeared in Macleans, the Globe and Mail, the National Post, Canadian Geographic, and American Libraries, among others.

If you’ve been reading his many articles for LifeSiteNews, you know that Steve brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, a commitment to excellence, and most importantly a dedication to promoting a culture of life and family through news reporting to this work.

Lianne Laurence – Toronto correspondent

As the author of the official book-length biography of Canadian pro-life giant, politician and human rights activist, Joe Borowski, Lianne is intimately familiar with everything pro-life in Canada.

On top of that, Lianne has years of experience as a journalist, editor, and writer for publications including The Interim and Catholic insight. Lianne’s spunky and fearless personality have been a huge asset as she has trekked around Toronto for LifeSite, attending court hearings, covering protests, and confronting politicians with the hard questions that Canadian pro-life and pro-family activists want answered.

Steve and Lianne join our incredible team of Canadian reporters and editors, including LifeSiteNews editor-in-chief John-Henry Westen, Managing Director Steve Jalsevac, Managing Editor John Jalsevac, Canadian Bureau Chief Patrick Craine, and journalists Ted and Peter Baklinski.

But with a growing Canadian operation also comes growing costs. That’s why I need to urgently remind you of our critical annual Spring Campaign, which started this week.

Our minimum goal of $175,000 is absolutely essential if we are going to be able to sustain our growth in staff, news coverage, and website services from the past few months.

Can you help us today with the most generous donation you are able to make?

With millions of Canadians accessing our news reports, it would only take 2,500 people donating $50 for us to reach – and even surpass our goal!

By your support, you will help LifeSite continue to play the vital role of providing the truth regarding life and family issues for all Canadians who share our deep-felt convictions on these matters.

Thank you for your continued support! We simply could not do this important work without you.
