STUDY CHASTISES DOCTORS FOR REGARDING MISCARRIAGE LOSS AS MINOR MATTER

MELBOURNE, Australia, Dec 8, 2000 (LSN.ca) – An Australian study on miscarriage published in the current British Journal of Medical Psychology says, “Miscarriage can no longer be regarded as a minor matter by either health professionals or the lay community.” The study reported that grief and trauma are almost universally experienced by both mothers and fathers of unborn children lost through miscarriage.

The researchers questioned 39 mothers who had had miscarriages within three weeks and 32 of their partners. Nearly 90 per cent of women and 87 per cent of men said they were sad or very sad in reaction to the loss of the child. When questioned between two and five months later, more than 70 per cent of the women and nearly 60 per cent of the men still felt sad or very sad. “Findings indicate that there is a need for health professionals to legitimize the grief of both women and partners and where appropriate offering counselling or referral,” said the study. “After a miscarriage the father’s feelings are rarely given consideration because of the assumption they do not bond with the unborn child.”

For years the professional psychological establishment in North America has refused to acknowledge post abortion syndrome, an affliction like pregnancy loss by miscarriage but coupled with the horror of having consented to and encouraged the death. With abortions there is also the suffering caused when the mother or father of the child are not wanting the abortion. Either the woman consents due to pressure from the father or the father is left powerless to defend his offspring while the mother insists on an abortion.

LYNCH MOB HUNTS FOR “ANTI-FEMINIST” PROFESSOR AT TORONTO UNIVERSITY

TORONTO, Dec 8, 2000 (LSN.ca) – The absolute intolerance of academia for anyone who does not swear by the doctrine of rabid feminism has presented itself once again as a University of Toronto professor’s views have been berated by the university’s president. The anniversary of the shooting of 14 women at Montreal’s École Polytechnique by a madman has long been exploited by feminists to push their radical agenda. When the University of Toronto sent around an email to all faculty and staff promoting an event commemorating the anniversary, computer science professor Charles Rackoff decided to send his reply, objecting to the radical feminist propaganda at such meetings, to all who received the university email.

Prof. Rackoff’s email created a firestorm of protest from staff, university officials and radical students. The university president Robert Birgeneau condemned Rackoff’s statements but stopped short of officially censuring him for his opinion. “First and foremost, I neither accept nor endorse Professor Rackoff’s views. . . In fact, I find them repugnant.,” said Birgeneau, in a statement sent to all faculty and staff. “Nonetheless, I acknowledge the difficulty balancing deeply disturbing views expressed by members of our community with the university’s fundamental principle of free speech.”

The National Post reports that one group of professors at the Mississauga campus launched an electronic petition to be distributed throughout the university, condemning his remarks. And a group of radical students at the institution’s downtown campus erected a two-metre banner reading “F— off, Rackoff.”

In his email Rackoff said: the memorial events often “promote the feminist/extreme left-wing agenda.” He explained, “It [is] no different, and no more justifiable, than when organizations such as the Klu Klux Klan [sic] use the murder of a white person by a black person as an excuse to promote their agenda.” He continued: “If you don’t like it, imagine how those of us feel who have been subjected for decades to nearly constant inundation of Feminist/Extreme-left-wing propaganda — via posters, e-mail such as this, etc., etc., with hardly a whimper of rebuttal. If you are offended by this message, that is nothing compared to how offended I am by this ‘memorial.’ ”

ICC A “THREAT TO AMERICAN SOVEREIGNTY AND FREEDOM”

WASHINGTON, Dec 8, 2000 (LSN.ca) – The bill proposed in the United States Senate and Congress to fight the implementation of the UN’s International Criminal Court has received backing from influential leaders across the political spectrum. The New York Times reported yesterday that on Nov. 29, 12 former high-level officials backed the American Servicemen’s Protection Act (ASPA) in a letter to House majority whip Tom DeLay. Signatures on the letter included that of four former secretaries of state, James A. Baker III, Lawrence S. Eagleburger, Henry A. Kissinger and George P. Shultz, and three former national security advisers, Richard V. Allen, Zbigniew Brzezinski and Brent Scowcroft. The letter said the ASPA is “an appropriate response to the threat to American sovereignty and international freedom of action posed by the International Criminal Court.”

LifeSite reported in June that the ASPA would bar any U.S. cooperation with the ICC, so long as the U.S. has not signed and ratified the Rome Treaty. Given that the UN depends heavily on US personnel for its peacekeeping operations, the bill hits hard, requiring that “U.S. personnel be immunized from the ICC’sjurisdiction before the U.S. can participate in any UN peacekeeping operation.” Moreover the bills sponsor in the Senate Jesse Helms said “it prevents the transfer of classified national security information to the Court, and bans U.S. military assistance to any country that has ratified the Rome Treaty (with a waiver for U.S. allies who have agreements that protect Americans from extradition).” And finally it “authorizes the President to use all means necessary and appropriate to bring home any U.S. or Allied personnel detained against their will by or on behalf of the Court.”

VATICAN SUPPORTS SCHOOL VOUCHERS

VATICAN CITY, Dec 8, 2000 (LSN.ca) – Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Angelo Sodano has publicly voiced support for allowing parents choice in the education of their children through the use of school vouchers. Zenit News reports that during a meeting with the Catholic Union of Secondary School Teachers yesterday, the cardinal said it was a “good idea,” to have such legislation.

The debate over school vouchers has often heard the proponents of “public” education fear mongering that a system of vouchers would destroy the school system. In fact, a system of vouchers would give parents the power to insist on an education that would best benefit their children rather than being forced to accept a school where the lowest common denominator prevails. Catholic bishops in the US and Canada have also backed systems such as vouchers which would allow funding for religious schooling.

VATICAN OFFICIAL: BLAMING CHURCH FOR AIDS IS “PSYCHOLOGICAL TERRORISM”

VATICAN CITY, Dec 8, 2000 (LSN.ca) – Father Felice Ruffini, undersecretary of the Pontifical Council for Pastoral Assistance to Health Care Workers condemned the accusation that the Church is spreading AIDS by being opposed to condoms as “psychological terrorism.” Zenit News reported that the comments follow the conclusion of a Vatican summit on AIDS. The church maintains that “chastity in keeping with each person’s state is the safest means of prevention.”

In a statement made Tuesday Rev. Ruffini said it is a “real act of psychological terrorism to present the position of the Church against the prophylactic as one, if not the principal, cause of the spread of AIDS. In any case, if the virus spreads, the fault lies with man, who does not want to engage in self-criticism of his behavior.” He also pointed out that the church is one of the foremost organizations taking care of those afflicted with the dreaded disease.

To fight off more conservative proposals that Australian government has passed a law banning reproductive cloning while allowing human cloning for research purposes. The law also forbids creating animal-human hybrids. The law proposes a 10 year prison term for reproductive cloning, and the large penalty is being used to pretend to be serious about abuses in new reproductive technologies while in fact it allows for very objectionable research and bans only suggestions from the realm of science fiction.
