UNICEF Nigerian Polio Vaccine Contaminated with Sterilizing Agents Scientist Finds

Scientist says things discovered in vaccines are “harmful, toxic”

KADUNA, Nigeria, March 11, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A UNICEF campaign to vaccinate Nigeria’s youth against polio may have been a front for sterilizing the nation. Dr. Haruna Kaita, a pharmaceutical scientist and Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, took samples of the vaccine to labs in India for analysis.

Using WHO-recommended technologies like Gas Chromatography (GC) and Radio-Immuno assay, Dr. Kaita, upon analysis, found evidence of serious contamination. “Some of the things we discovered in the vaccines are harmful, toxic; some have direct effects on the human reproductive system,” he said in an interview with Kaduna’s Weekly Trust. “I and some other professional colleagues who are Indians who were in the Lab could not believe the discovery,” he said.

A Nigerian government doctor tried to persuade Dr. Kaita that the contaminants would have no bearing on human reproduction. “…I was surprised when one of the federal government doctors was telling me something contrary to what I have learned, studied, taught and is the common knowledge of all pharmaceutical scientists — that estrogen cannot induce an anti-fertility response in humans,” he said. “I found that argument very disturbing and ridiculous.”

When asked by the Trust why Dr. Kaita felt the drug manufacturers would have contaminated the Oral Polio Vaccine, he gave three reasons: “These manufacturers or promoters of these harmful things have a secret agenda which only further research can reveal. Secondly they have always taken us in the third world for granted, thinking we don’t have the capacity, knowledge and equipment to conduct tests that would reveal such contaminants. And very unfortunately they also have people to defend their atrocities within our midst, and worst still some of these are supposed to be our own professionals who we rely on to protect our interests.”

Dr. Kaita is demanding that “those who imported this fake drug in the name of Polio Vaccines…be prosecuted like any other criminal.”

The campaign to rid Nigeria of polio is in its fourth year. Officials there claim that all contaminated vaccines have been exhausted and replaced by uncontaminated batches.

In a rhetorical conclusion to the interview, Dr. Kaita asked “What plans has the government put in place to help children who have been given these toxic and contaminated vaccines in case they start reacting to them?”

This is not the first time UNICEF has been embroiled in a controversy over sterilizing agents in vaccines. LifeSiteNews.com reported that in 1995, the Catholic Women’s League of the Philippines won a court order halting a UNICEF anti-tetanus program because the vaccine had been laced with B-hCG, which when given in a vaccine permanently causes women to be unable to sustain a pregnancy. The Supreme Court of the Philippines found the surreptitious sterilization program had already vaccinated three million women, aged 12 to 45. B-hCG-laced vaccine was also found in at least four other developing countries.

15-Year-Old Detroit Girl Dies from Botched Second Trimester Abortion

DETROIT, MI, March 11, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A 15-year-old in a Detroit suburb died January 8 as a result of a second trimester abortion. News of the death has not been published anywhere except a minor mention on a local Fox station.

Dr. Leigh Hlavaty performed an autopsy on 15-year-old Tamia Russell on January 9. Dr. Hlavaty told a local registered nurse and pro-life activist who contacted LifeSiteNews.com that the girl’s death was caused by “uterine infarction with sepsis due to status second trimester abortion.” She ruled the death as “normal.” The doctor explained, “I ruled it normal because these complications are expected with this type of abortion.”

The case is complicated by the fact that Russell’s boyfriend was 24 and in Michigan that constitutes statutory rape. Moreover, the boyfriend’s sister took Russell in for the abortion without the knowledge of Russell’s parents. Michigan law requires parental notification for abortions for minors under 18.

Tamia’s family told Fox that they did not even know their daughter was six months pregnant. The family is outraged over the incident and are blaming the abortionist at the Woman Care Clinic in Lanthrup Village for their daughter’s death. Michigan pro-life activist Ann Norton told LifeSiteNews.com that the abortionist in question is Alberto Hotari.

Local police, and the attorney general are reportedly investigating the case however phone calls to the local police department were not returned by press time. Michigan Right to Life told LifeSiteNews.com they are following the case closely.

LifeSiteNews.com called the Woman Care Clinic to ask for a comment. After being put on hold for an excessive period of time, a woman who did not wish to be named said, “I’m sorry to tell you that because of all the privacy rules in effect, we cannot reveal any information.”

Pope Doesn’t Find The Passion Anti-Semitic but Police and Courts are Investigating

ROME, March 11, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – In an interview with the Italian daily Il Messaggero published today, Vatican spokesman Joaquin Navarro-Valls strongly implies that Pope John Paul does not find Mel Gibson’s film The Passion of the Christ to be anti-semitic. “If the film were to be considered anti-Semitic, then the gospels would also have to be considered so,” Navarro-Valls said.

The papal spokesman said the Pope saw the film and despite calls to distance the Catholic Church from the film, John Paul II has remained silent. “The subsequent silence by the hierarchy is eloquent,” added Navarro-Valls.

Despite the views of the Pope, the film’s critics are attempting to have film showings shut down under hate-crime statutes.

Early this month, the New York Post reported that the 20 officers of the Hate Crime Unit of the New York Police Department were ordered to screen the film. Moreover, a petition is underway demanding that US Attorney General John Ashcroft and the US Department of Justice evaluate the “anti-Semitism clearly presented” in the film asking that “civil, criminal, and Federal hate-crime laws, as appropriate, be utilized . . . against the directors, producers, and screen writers responsible for the work itself.”

Meanwhile in Brazil, Jewish lawyer Jacob Pinheiro Goldberg has written the Brazilian Department of Justice demanding the department forbid the film to be released in the country. Goldberg admitted to purchasing and viewing a pirated copy of the film.

President Bush Speaks out for Life and Family in Remarks to Evangelicals

WASHINGTON, March 11, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – President George W. Bush addressed the National Association of Evangelicals Convention today via satellite. The President said of his administration, “We’re working to build a culture of life.”

He recounted his signing the law “to end the brutal practice of partial-birth abortion” and to hearty applause promised to “vigorously defend this law against any attempt to overturn it in the courts.” He added, “I will also continue to support crisis pregnancy centres, and adoption, and parental notification laws. I proposed doubling federal funding for abstinence programs in schools and community-based programs.”

“In the past two years I have been proud to sign the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act and legislation supporting maternity group homes. I strongly support the Unborn Victims of Violence Act, and call upon the United States Congress to send it to my desk. I oppose the use of federal funds for the destruction of human embryos for stem cell research. I will work with Congress to pass a comprehensive and effective ban on human cloning. Human life is a creation of God, not a commodity to be exploited by man.”

On marriage, the President said, “I will defend the sanctity of marriage against activist courts and local officials who want to redefine marriage. The union of a man and woman is the most enduring human institution, honoured and encouraged in cultures and by every religious faith. Ages of experience have taught humanity that the commitment of a husband and wife to love and to serve one another promotes the welfare of children and the stability of society. And government, by recognizing and protecting marriage, serves the interests of all. It is for that reason I support a constitutional amendment to protect marriage as the union of a man and a woman.”

Boston Archbishop O’Malley Says Gay ‘Marriage’ and Civil Unions Pose Grave Threat to Religious Liberty and Freedom of Conscience

BOSTON, March 11, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – As the Massachusetts legislature considers proposals regarding the definition of marriage, Boston’s Archbishop Sean O’Malley has issued a strong statement giving the reasons for the Catholic teaching that marriage is the exclusive reserve of one man and one woman. The Massachusetts proposal employs the “compromise” of creating legal “civil unions” and retaining the traditional definition of the word “marriage”. The Pope has expressly condemned the so-called civil unions “compromise”.

Speaking for the Catholic Church in Massachusetts, O’Malley wrote, “We support the Marriage Affirmation and Protection Amendment as it has been presented, without the introduction of civil unions language.” The Archbishop warned that the proposal represents a threat to the freedom of religious communities. We are concerned with proposals to give same-sex couples identical benefits and protections to those given to husbands and wives that pose a grave threat to religious liberty and the freedom of conscience.”

New York Bishops Strongly Defend Marriage

NEW YORK, NY, March 11, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Brooklyn Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, spokesman for the archdiocese of New York has testified that once marriage is taken legally to include homosexual partners, it can be twisted to become anything according to individual desires. Allowing “gay marriage” could lead to group “marriage” or, if taken to the absurd, to marriage between pets. “It could be anything once you say marriage is something other than what it is,” DiMarzio said, citing the Catholic Church’s teaching that marriage is an objective reality and not something open to legal or legislative tinkering.

Edward Cardinal Egan said, in a homily, “you want to champion the rights of the family,” calling marriage the “most basic, essential and sacred component of society.”

Cardinal Egan and other New York bishops met with legislators Tuesday to make the case for the defense of traditional marriage in an annual meeting. Egan also met privately with Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno on marriage and other issues Tuesday. The Cardinal said after the meeting, “My position would be that marriage would be an agreement to be faithful and to stay together in a union between a man and woman with openness to children and with a seeking of mutual support.” He added, “I believe that this is perhaps the position of every civilization as long as we know.”

The Baby with Nine Lives

BLOEMFONTEIN, South Africa, March 11, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Six of seven premature babies have died as the result of contamination of their intravenous parenteral nutrition source. The deaths are being blamed on a batch of contaminated liquid mixed at the hospital’s pharmacy.

But one girl in the perinatal care unit of Pelonomi Regional Hospital survived. The 28-day old also survived a botched abortion attempt two months earlier.

In an interview with South Africa’s The Star, the young mother said that the baby survived because it was God’s will. “She is a fighter and a survivor,” she added. No details as to why the abortion was unsuccessful were revealed in The Star. The mother, who wished to remain anonymous, said that “When I found out I was pregnant, I tried to terminate the pregnancy, but it was unsuccessful. Then she was born two months prematurely and could not breathe on her own – and now this. I think God wants my baby to be alive.”

The mother said that as a student she did not feel ready to have a child. “It was a mistake. My parents did not know I was pregnant until I went into labour. But now that she is here, I love her and have accepted her as part of my life. I do not want anything bad to happen to her,” she said.

The baby, though still in critical condition, is gaining weight and showing signs of recovery. “She is still on a feed drip and is gaining weight. This gives me great relief,” her mother said.

The hospital and health officials are investigating the source of the contamination.

Homosexual Activist Student to Sue Catholic University

NEWARK, March 11, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A homosexual activist at Seton Hall University is attempting a civil suit for force the Catholic university to capitulate on a gay and lesbian student group. Sophomore Anthony Romeo has already rejected the university’s offer of a compromise and is filing suit against the university on the grounds of discrimination.

Romeo complains that Seton Hall refused to allow his group to sponsor religious services tailored to homosexuals on campus.

The Roman Catholic Church, teaches that unjust discrimination against persons is morally sinful; it also teaches that homosexual behavior cannot be encouraged or acclaimed as normal or healthy. The Church therefore considers it not possible for a any faithful Catholic institution to allow religious services that would tend to give the impression of acceptance of homosexual behavior.

In response to Romeo’s accusations, the university responded that it would not formally recognize any campus group, gay or otherwise, that was based solely on sexual orientation. Seton Hall spokeswoman Natalie Thigpen stood by the offer of a memorandum of understanding that would acknowledging the group’s existence but reserved the right to choose its name.

UK Survey Reveals Teens Appreciate Conservative Values

Survey “a damning indictment of the damage caused by the lax attitudes of adults”

LONDON, UK, March 11, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A survey of 5000 British 12 to 18 year-olds has revealed that teens have more conservative values than most people realize.

Two-thirds of UK teens feel that there are too many abortions. Seventy percent said that cannabis should remain illegal. And 92 percent still believe in marriage, although only 60 percent thought that couples should marry before having children.

Four out of ten teenagers reported feeling regret about being sexually active before the age of 15.

The survey, conducted by UK’s Bliss magazine, also revealed more conservative views on issues such as harsher punishment for criminals and the rejection of “bogus” asylum seekers.

Editor of Bliss, Helen Johnston, told The Guardian that “Teenagers like boundaries, they make them feel safe – but over the years they’ve been torn down … This survey is a damning indictment of the damage caused by the lax attitudes of adults inflicted on children.”
