MAJOR RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATIONS ANNOUNCE “A CHRISTIAN DECLARATION ON MARRIAGE”

LOS ANGELES, Nov 15 (LSN.ca) – Yesterday, at an unprecedented gathering, Catholic and Protestant religious leaders together voiced their concerns about marriage and divorce in American society in “A Christian Declaration on Marriage.” Bishop Kevin Mannoia, President of the National Association of Evangelicals, convened the task force that drafted the document. The task force also includes the National Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, Southern Baptist Convention, and the National Council of Churches.

The document defines marriage as “a holy union of one man and one woman in which they commit, with God’s help, to build a loving, life-giving, faithful relationship that will last for a lifetime.” The document laments that, “Our nation is threatened by a high divorce rate, a rise in cohabitation, a rise in non-marital births, a decline in the marriage rate, and a diminishing interest in and readiness in and readiness for marrying, especially among young people.” The Christian church leaders add “With three quarters of marriages performed by clergy, churches are uniquely positioned not only to call America to a stronger commitment to this holy union but to provide practical ministries and influence for reversing the course of our culture.”

The church leaders “call on churches throughout America to do their part to strengthen marriage in our nation” by exerting “Influence within society and the culture to uphold the institution of marriage.” The document also calls churches to promote marriage, marriage preparation, help spouses in marital difficulty, provide prayer and spiritual support, and to educate the young about the meaning and responsibility of marriage.

The document is signed by Bishop Anthony O’Connell, Chairman National Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee on Marriage and Family Life; Dr. Richard Land, President Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission Southern Baptist Convention; Dr. Robert Edgar, General Secretary National Council of Churches of Christ In the USA; and Bishop Kevin Mannoia, President National Association of Evangelicals.

LIBERALS ATTACK DAY’S RELIGION AS POLLS SHIFT IN ALLIANCE FAVOUR

TORONTO, Nov 15 (LSN.ca) – As recent polls show the Liberals slipping and the Alliance gaining, the federal Liberals have begun an intensified negative attack strategy against Canadian Alliance Leader Stockwell Day, denouncing him for his religious beliefs. The anti-Alliance CBC last night aired the long-expected smear piece “The Fundamental Day” which attacked Day spuriously and Christianity’s account of the creation story specifically. Also yesterday, Liberal cabinet minister Elinor Caplan spoke to a crowd in her Toronto-area riding hurling what many would call hate speech towards the Alliance. She stated, “Their supporters are Holocaust deniers, prominent bigots and racists.”

Day responded to the attacks this morning saying, “These are lies and people need to be held accountable for that.” He added, “When the other side resorts to shrill, unsubstantiated accusations, it means they’ve lost the debate. They’ve panicked. They’re in fear of losing power.” Prime Minister Chretien defended Caplan’s comments.

ENGLAND TO FORCE ACCEPTANCE OF HOMOSEXUALITY ON CARIBBEAN ISLANDS

LONDON, Nov 15 (LSN.ca) – The British government will force the legalization of homosexuality on its Caribbean territories after having cajoled the Islands’ legislators unsuccessfully. The Sunday Times reports that the affected Islands have devout Christian populations and its leaders have thus refused to cave in to the foreign pressure. The Times was privy to a secret government letter outlining the plan. The letter from Baroness Scotland, the minister responsible for overseas territories, to Jenny Tonge, the Liberal Democrat spokesman on international development states, “None of the relevant territories were willing to legislate themselves . . . We will therefore shortly be proceeding with an order in council to make the necessary change to the law of the five Caribbean territories. I expect to do this before Christmas.”

According to the Times the move will affect the British Virgin Islands, Montserrat, the Turks and Caicos Islands, Anguilla and the Cayman Islands.

WOMAN IN COMA AFTER SURGERY AT PLANNED PARENTHOOD

WASHINGTON, DC, Nov 15 (LSN.ca) – Linda McGowan, a 27-year-old mother of four, is in a coma following a November 2 tubal ligation surgery conducted at Planned Parenthood in Overland Park, Kansas by Dr. Robert Crist. Crist is Planned Parenthood’s chief abortionist at the Forest Park Street abortuary in St. Louis. Although malpractice cases involving Planned Parenthood are common, they are rarely discovered since settlements are often made outside of court, with a condition of secrecy. STOPP International, which brought the situation to light urged prayers for Linda and her family and commented that “This tragic incident should lead women to think twice before they go to Planned Parenthood for any type of health care.”

Rock for Life points out that in his most recent CD, Satanic rocker Marilyn Manson admits his anguish over his participation in the killing of his child. In describing the absurdity of being offered a cup of coffee during the abortion of his child, Manson writes, “I sat in the women’s clinic waiting room, wondering what was going on just three rooms away as doctors [were] … tearing out the brains of our child with a pair of forceps.” Manson’s anguish slips out in Disposable Teens, his latest video. The CD cover of Disposable Teens depicts an aborted baby nailed to a crucifix. The lyrics of the title cut describe teens as the generation that has “survived abortion.” In his autobiography, The Long Road Out of Hell, Manson cites his childhood discovery of an aborted baby (possibly a sibling) in a coffee can. Rock for Life warns teens NOT to purchase the Manson CD.

Today the National Conference of Catholic Bishops released a statement on abortion endorsed at its annual meeting. The document, “Abortion and the Supreme Court: Advancing the Culture of Death” says in one of its strongest statements, “In Stenberg v. Carhart, a majority of five justices ruled that even the killing of a child mostly born alive is protected by what the Court called ‘the woman’s right to choose.’ This decision has brought our legal system to the brink of endorsing infanticide.” See the whole document at:
