Video Editor

LifeSiteNews is looking for a creative, self-motivated, mission-oriented “full-stack” video producer/editor. As a primarily text-based news agency, LifeSite is looking to reach new audiences and tell new stories promoting the pro-life and pro-family cause by branching out into other forms of content production.  The successful candidate will initially be responsible for every aspect of video production, from storyboarding to shooting to post-production and sound design, as well as managing content on our Youtube/Vimeo accounts. He/she will also be intimately involved in defining the direction that LifeSite’s content-production takes, which could include everything from the production of pro-life short films, the creation of regular podcast-style interview programs, on-the-ground video reporting, etc.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join a vibrant, passionate team of professionals committed to promoting the Culture of Life, and to use their God-given talents to reach literally millions of viewers with the truth about life, family and faith.

This position reports to the Managing Editor and the management team. 

Responsibilities:

  • Storyboard pro-life and pro-family videos
  • Capture studio-quality photographs and video
  • Set up studio lighting for video interviews
  • Manage and oversee all technical aspects of video recording and editing
  • Input music, dialogues, graphics and effects
  • Consult with stakeholders from production to post-production process

Requirements

  • Proven work experience as a video editor/videographer
  • Solid experience with digital technology and editing software packages (e.g. Avid Media Composer, Lightworks, Premiere, After Effects and Final Cut)
  • Demonstrable videography and editing ability with a strong portfolio
  • Creative mind and storytelling skills
  • Highly self-motivated
  • The ability to work independently as well as in a team setting
  • Strong personal commitment to the pro-life and pro-family cause

LOCATION: The successful will be able to work remotely from home. However, some travel will almost certainly be necessary in order to capture original video content/assist in setting up home studios for staff, etc.

SALARY: Salary is negotiable based upon need and experience. Keep in mind that LifeSiteNews is a mission-based non-profit, although we always seek to meet our employees' legitimate financial needs.

Canadian Journalist

LifeSiteNews is seeking a full-time journalist to cover pro-life and pro-family news in Canada.

The successful applicant will be tasked with finding and writing top-notch shareable content that will inspire readers to engage in the battle for life, family, and faith. He or she must be a highly motivated journalist with experience writing, editing, and publishing for online, social media conscious publications.

This position reports to the Managing Editor and the management team.

A successful candidate will have:

  • excellent research and writing skills
  • a meticulous eye for detail and accuracy
  • extensive knowledge of the global pro-life and pro-family movements, and especially of the movements in Canada
  • knowledge of Catholic teachings and traditions
  • keen interest in current events in the Church and world
  • high self-motivation, and ability to thrive in a high-stress, fast-paced environment with constant rolling deadlines
  • facility and experience with web publishing platforms, Microsoft Office, social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), Skype
  • willingness to take direction and adapt, and ability to work well on a team
  • excellent communication skills
  • familiarity with Associated Press style
  • willingness to work hours as needed, including occasional nights and weekends

Assistant Web Developer

The Assistant Web Developer will assisting in designing, coding, and modifying the LifeSiteNews website, as well as overseeing our web servers and security, as our needs continue to grow and expand.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join a vibrant, passionate team of professionals committed to promoting the Culture of Life, and to grow what is already the #1 most-read pro-life and pro-family website on the Internet.

LOCATION: While LifeSiteNews has offices in Front Royal, Virginia and Toronto, Ontario, many of our staff telecommute from home offices. As such, this position is open to telecommuters.

Candidate requirements:

  • A strong commitment to advancing LifeSite's pro-life and pro-family mission via the application of the latest web-based technologies
  • 2+ years of experience in web site development
  • Strong understanding of Web Apps and proficiency in programming languages  HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and jQuery, PHP
  • Understanding of UX, cross browser compatibility, general web functions and standards
  • Knowledge of SEO, Google AMP, Apple News, and other challenges and opportunities that will impact our readership
  • Ability to build reusable code and libraries for future use
  • Focus on optimizing our site for maximum speed and scalability
  • Understanding of mobile first design and user experience
  • Understanding of security principles and how they apply to certain E-Commerce applications, such as our donation platform
  • Ability to integrate data from various back-end services and databases
  • Be responsible for maintaining, expanding, and scaling our website as our needs and technology continues to develop
  • Management of hosting, including database administration and scaling applications to support needs
  • Strong organizational skills to juggle multiple tasks within the constraints of timelines and budgets
  • Focus on staying plugged into emerging technologies and industry trends, applying them into our everyday operations and activities

Having development experience with these platforms is considered beneficial:

  • Expression Engine CMS

Catholic Breaking News Journalist

LifeSiteNews is seeking a full-time journalist to cover breaking Catholic, pro-life, and pro-family news.

The successful applicant will be tasked with finding and writing top-notch shareable content that will inspire readers to engage in the battle for life, family, and faith. He or she must be a highly motivated journalist with at least two years of experience writing, editing, and publishing for online, social media conscious publications.

This specific job requires the ability to stay on top of breaking news of interest to our Catholic, pro-life, and pro-family readers. It requires a fast writing pace, with as many as five to ten shorter submissions every day.

This position reports to the Managing Editor and the management team.

A successful candidate will have:

  • excellent research and writing skills
  • a meticulous eye for detail and accuracy
  • extensive knowledge of the global pro-life and pro-family movements
  • extensive knowledge of Catholic doctrine, tradition, history, and discipline
  • keen interest in current events in the Church and world
  • a personal passion for promoting the Catholic faith, especially its pro-life and pro-family beliefs
  • an interest and familiarity with internal Catholic Church structures and how they impact the faith
  • high self-motivation, and ability to thrive in a high-stress, fast-paced environment with constant rolling deadlines
