* Catholic World News reported last week that Brazil’s President received a letter signed by all the country’s Catholic bishops asking him to veto a new abortion law that allows for the procedure in cases of rape, and which reduces the punishment for illegal abortions.

* The Quebec provincial government introduced a bill last Thursday which would alter 39 laws and regulations giving homosexual couples the same rights as heterosexual couples.
