In the federal Health Committee yesterday Liberal MPs refused to endorse a motion calling for a ban on human cloning. The National Post reports that the Liberals say more time is needed to consider draft legislation. Ottawa has been trying to come up with a law covering new reproductive technologies for almost a decade. In 1993 a royal commission recommended a ban on human cloning.

The Globe and Mail reported Tuesday that Canada’s energy and environment ministers hope to be in a position to endorse ratification of the Kyoto agreement by next May. Natural Resources Minister Ralph Goodale said this date would be in keeping with the federal government’s “preferred target” of ratifying the treaty next year.
