The Montreal Gazette reports that Canadian Alliance Leader Stockwell Day is calling for uniting with the Tories before next year in order to be ready to take on the Liberals in the next election. The Gazette also contained an article yesterday bemoaning the probably fatal damage being inflicted on the Alliance Party by the Manning “sore losers”. Writer Lawrence Martin states “It’s been a tough week for the Sore Losers Society. The hand grenades of Preston Manning’s team of saboteurs are beginning to miss their target. Their bid to avenge the loss of the Alliance leadership to Stockwell Day by dumping him in record quick time is fizzling out. One piece of bad news has followed another.” Martin further notes that “The Manningites have done more in the past few weeks to destroy the Canadian Alliance than has Day himself. The crybaby rebels have ripped the party in half. They’ve sent it, by provoking daily headlines of dissent and rebellion, plunging in the polls.”
